Jun 20 / Indonesian Student Meets with Consul General in Los Angeles
Mr. Zilman Syarif, YES 06-07, was recently granted a special meeting with the Honorable Subijaksono Sujono, Consul General of Indonesia for the western United States, at the Indonesian Consulate in Los Angeles. The meeting was initiated by local AFS volunteer and returnee Mr Shamey Cramer, and arranged by the Hon. Augusti Anwar, Consul for Information and Education. Zilman was also lucky enough to meet Mr. Aulia Rachman, the Indonesian Parliament Representative for Zilman’s hometown in Padang, West Sumatra.
Mr. Cramer remarked: “Our AFS-YES student, Zilman Syarif from West Sumatra, Indonesia, would like to pursue a career in public service and some day serve his country as an Ambassador. If you’ve had the pleasure of meeting Z, you know that this could very well be within the realm of possibilities.
Of the hundreds/thousands of AFS students I’ve personally met since 1968, when I was a grade schooler, I must confess that he – more than any other student – truly has what it takes to achieve this goal. He is a gifted young man, and I consider myself fortunate to have had the ability to interact with him this past year.”
Zilman is hosted with the Anaiscourt family in Los Angeles.
