Jun 13 / US Ambassador to Egypt Meets With YES Students in Cairo
U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Margaret Scobey held an Embassy reception for Egyptian youth who will participate in the 2008 Youth Exchange and Study (YES) program. The student’s families were also present, along with alumni of the YES program and staff and volunteers from AFS Egypt. The YES participants who were selected come from ten governorates in Egypt. They arrive in the US in August 2008 to begin their year-long exchange with American families and schools.
Ambassador Scobey said that the year ahead would broaden their understanding of the world as well as promote better understanding between Egyptians and Americans. Every day they spend in the U.S. will provide opportunities for them to learn more about the American people, and for the Americans to learn more about Egyptian history and culture. She told the students, “You will be young ambassadors to Egypt and you will have to explain a great deal to the American people and tell them about Egyptian culture and civilization.”
