Service is a very important part of the YES experience, and it's also an important part of the holy month of Ramadan for many Muslims. To celebrate Ramadan, the YES alumni network in the West Bank organized an Iftar (evening meal) on Tuesday, May 29th for the kids at Deir Ammar Camp, near Ramallah. Nine YES alumni from different parts the country joined together to break the fast and spread joy in the spirit of Ramadan.
Before the event, the alumni prepared a schedule of fun activities for the kids. They arrived an hour before Iftar time and kicked off the event with a game of questions and answers about their favorite topics. The kids split into teams and each team had one YES alumnus/a with them. The game got the kids to work in teams to compete.
After the game, everybody got ready to have a delicious Iftar together. The alumni then helped with cleaning up and preparing for a game of Bingo! First the alumni explained this new game to the kids, and once the children understood the rules of the game they enjoyed playing bingo very much. It was evident from their expressions how much they enjoyed learning a new game and playing with their friends. At the completion of the event, each child got a coloring book and coloring pencils that they would enjoy coloring together later.
