Each year, the Indonesia YES Alumni Association (IYAA) conducts a series of activities in various chapters as part of the IYAA Educational Outreach Project. In Makassar last month, the alumni community conducted a day-long Educational Outreach Project at a local school with close to 200 students with disabilities. The goals of this project were to improve English language skills and motivate students to continue learning English. There were 12 alumni and 7 volunteers who participated in organizing and implementing the project.

The project activities consisted of English language lessons and games between sessions. The alumni also shared their YES program experiences, spoke about the importance of learning and speaking English, and promoted the YES program to school staff and students. The event received extremely positive feedback from the school and the students. Several school officers told the alumni that the project was very helpful and they observed the students making extra efforts to communicate in English with the alumni. The alumni also noted that students seemed very interested in the YES program and asked many questions during the Q&A session.
