In celebration of International Literacy Day, the Cameroon YES Alumni Association (CYAA) organized a fundraiser to donate English textbooks to students at two local bilingual schools: Government Bilingual Primary School (GBPS) Group I and Group II. Spearheaded by Atemlefac Nkeng-Asong (YES 2013-2014, Cameroon, hosted by American Councils for International Education PO in Pueblo, CO), the alumni raised enough money to supply English textbooks to 60 students. The alumni held a ceremony at GBPS Group II to distribute the donations. Administrators and teachers attended the event to show support for the alumni’s initiatives.

One of the attendees was extremely pleased with the success of the event and promised her continuous support to CYAA to encourage more opportunities for collaboration in the future. The attendee expressed that “with all the CYAA efforts, parents will really begin to understand the importance of buying books for their children, and encourage them to read at home."

Atemlefac said, "The event was wonderful!" He enjoyed watching the students collect their textbooks and the smiles on their faces were priceless. He is convinced these pupils will be able to pursue a quality education and he prays they become great people for a better future. The alumni's parents were very proud to see the promotion of literacy in the community.
