Marketing Your YES Year

Amadu G. Kabia, a YES 2010-2011 alumnus from Sierra Leone, organized a one-day intensive workshop for six YES alumni and seven local iEARN students. He was hosted by Ayusa in Harper, TX and was inspired after attending last May's YES Alumni Webinar on the same topic.

Amadu G. Kabia, the president of the Sierra Leone Alumni Association, noticed that many of the other alumni did not have resumes or Curriculum Vitae, and that this was impeding them from applying for opportunities. Seeing this, he organized a one-day, intensive workshop for six YES alumni residing in Freetown and seven local iEARN students. The training occurred on June 27, 2015, and lasted for six hours.

Amadu was inspired to give this training after attending last May's YES alumni webinar on the same topic, which was facilitated by Abeer Abu Ghaith and Jimi Tewe. He learned so much from attending the webinar and watching its recording, that he wanted to share it with others. In fact, during the workshop, he played the recording of the webinar for the alumni and students, and also utilized the PowerPoint presentation and examples the facilitators provided. Through the training, the students learned how to highlight their YES experiences and iEARN activities on their CVs. Amadu also gave them tips on career planning, job/internship searching and marketing their experiences to stay competitive. The alumni participants learned a lot and said they feel more prepared for their futures. In fact, they are now going to teach the rest of the alumni in Sierra Leone how they can improve their CVs.

*If you are interested in running your own training, you can find all of the resources from the webinar on the YES website.
