Medical Camp in Bangladesh Serves 300 Patients

Bangladesh Mcfv7

What happens when a group of YES alumni get together to make a difference?

They set up a medical camp and provide three hundred patients with medical aid and relief. Incredible, right? Our alumni in Bangladesh said YES to making this happen. On August 29-30, 2016, in response to monsoon floods devastating countless communities in the district of Kurigram in North Bengal, eleven YES alumni in Bangladesh joined forces with a team of ten local doctors to offer medical support to residents of a river island known as Alor Chor. They named the project, Medical Camp for Flood Victims (MCFV).

The inhabitants of these areas do not often have access to proper medical facilities because they are geographically isolated from the main land and most cannot afford the commute to the hospitals nor the cost for medicine. Through the MCFV, YES Alumni Bangladesh provided medical aid to citizens who were affected by the floods, but who would not have been able to seek treatment otherwise.

This was the first time a medical camp had ever been organized in Alor Chor, and an overwhelming number of patients attended. During the camp, the doctors examined, diagnosed, treated, and gave free medication to approximately three hundred patients. The attendance far exceeded the alumni's expectations, and they were happy that the MCFV was able to provide so much support to the victims in Alor Chor and give them a sense of hope for a better tomorrow.
