October 2016 YES Student of the Month: Abdul Haseeb

Abdul Haseeb Ciee

Abdul Haseeb from Pakistan, placed in Melissa, Texas, has been named October YES student of the month. Abdul is excited to be in the United States during an election year, and is taking both U.S. History and U.S. Government to learn as much as possible about our electoral system. He went with his host mother to watch the voting process in a local election and toured the city offices.

Although only 15 years old, Abdul has a stellar academic record as a senior at Melissa High School. In addition to his classes, Abdul plays on his high school football team, is a photographer for the yearbook, sings in the school choir, and is a member of the Arts and Ping-Pong clubs. He founded an International Club to share information about different countries and about study abroad. Outside of school, Abdul has been very active in his community. He joined a Boy Scout troop with his host brother and has worked on two Eagle Scout projects. Recently, Abdul taught preschoolers about Pakistani culture at the Melissa Public Library. He has also volunteered with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity. Abdul has already performed over 100 hours of community service, and his goal is to set a record for service hours performed by an exchange student. He has quickly made a positive impact on those around him, and is certainly making the most of his time in Texas.

Congratulations, Abdul!
