Responsibility through Flower Planting

Panajota I

By Bojan Aleksovski, YES 2013-2014, Macedonia, hosted by AFS in Chelmsford, MA

As the YES program grows successfully with time, YES alumni become more active in their communities each year. Panajota Gushkova (YES ’16, hosted by AFS in Marietta, OH) from Kochani recently conducted a project with elementary school children to increase her contribution towards society. On June 5, 2017, Panajota visited OU Kiril i Metodij, a local school, where she gathered 20 students from 6th and 8th grade to decorate flower pots. After decorating their pots, the students planted flowers in them and placed them around their school. Furthermore, the children also took up the responsibility of taking care of the plants every day until the flowers bloom.

Through this project, not only did Panajota help improve the appearance of the school, but also taught the students about taking responsibility for their own surroundings. Great job, Panajota, for applying your skills and spreading joy among your local society! This is Panajota's story, what is yours?
