The Place Where it All Started

Khalil Al Jawhari

Khalil Al Jawhari (YES 2010-2011, Lebanon, hosted by Ayusa in Sumico, WI) recently received a full scholarship to complete his medical degree at the Lebanese American University in Beirut (LAU). Khalil is being funded by a new scholarship initiative from the collaboration of Mr. Ragheb Alame and the Lebanese American University.

Khalil states, “The YES program is the place where it all started. My exchange year was a life- changing experience that made me the graduate I am today. This program played a major role in enhancing my English language skills and building my character and personality. Without it, I wouldn’t have gotten this far at LAU and successfully completed my BS in biology.”

Although Khalil has already accomplished a great deal, his journey has just begun. He wishes to become a specialist in medical and surgical eye problems. Khalil intends to pursue a career as an Ophthalmologist in Lebanon.

As a note to current YES students, Khalil adds, “Dear YES peers, the YES exchange program is an experience that teaches you to be strong and face all obstacles. You should all say YES to life and follow your dreams. Nothing comes easy, but with persistence, hard work and a goal in mind, everything is possible.”
