Maryame has taken the lessons learned from her exchange year to make a difference in her community.
On October 21, 2015, YES students hosted by AFS: Amir (Tanzania), Maggie (Kenya), Faith (Nigeria), Tresi (Albania) and Oumaima (Tunisia) participated in an activity with their Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) and Congress-Bundestag (CBYX) peers. Together, they visited the capital of their host state, Lansing, Michigan. The visit included a tour of the State Capitol, an in-person meeting with Senator Warren (Democrat representing the Ann Arbor District in the State Senate), a tour of the Michigan Supreme Court and Learning Center, a docent-led trip through The Michigan Historical Museum and a visit to the floor of the House of Representatives and the State Senate. The AFS students were formally received by the House of Representatives and recognized by all members on the floor!
