Jun 04 2009 / Obama in Cairo!!
by Sara Awad, Egypt 03-04
hosted in Wisconsin
As most of you already know by now, Obama was yesterday in Cairo. It was an honor for me being invited as a YES alumna to attend Obama’s speech. Sounds exciting, right? For me it was a life time experience :o)
Apart from how charismatic he is or how he was able to give such an amazing and perfect speech, surprisingly he used some words that sounded very familiar to me and to my life. Actually, they are not only to me but they would be also to you. Such words are “respect”, “understand”, "dignity, “harmony”, “differences”, “culture”, “listen”, “stereotypes” and others. Relating these words to each others would be explaining what the YES program is all about. I felt very proud being a part of such a mission of promoting peace and understanding between different cultures.
As alumni, we have the key words and potential needed to have a prosperous international system. We are the leaders of the future, and as Obama put it, “young people have the ability to remake the world.” So let us follow this mission, and recreate our own world abolishing stereotyping, building bridges and allowing understanding to flourish.
