Our private tour of Voice of America plus bonus interview!

i am Heni from Indonesia and thanks God i have reached my 5 months here without any concerns. i am hosted in the capital city of the US (everyone should know :P), yeah i live in DC for my exchange program. A couple weeks ago i and a few other exchange students were very lucky to be invited by Voice of America for a private tour and I was also interviewed by the Indonesian service.
i was there with other YES students from Kenya and India and they were also interviewed by their home country’s VOA service. i have to be thankful to jody, our AFS liaison who gave this brilliant opportunity. i am interested in broadcasting, so this tour was a perfect chance for me to find out more about the international broadcasting like VOA. It was so funny when i was entering the operators room, and listening to the news reader from another country bringing the news to their people overseas. i also walked around to see the mural walls and the short movie about how dedicated the people who work in VOA are to give the news to their own people.
and then came the interview time! I was super excited about this because i could meet Indonesian people, speak Bahasa Indonesia with them, made a bunch of jokes, sharing my experience and so many other entertaining things. i was interviewed by four different radio progams during the interview time. i talked about my funny experience with the indonesian teenager channel, i shared how to apply to become an exchange student and how i’ve been adjusting to the different culture in a different place, and also i was sharing my new year resolution with them. so it was a very hilarious moment for me to be able to share my stories with people in my country.
