Living in the state of Vermont, I got to enjoy skiing and eating the delicious Maple syrup. I took downhill skiing lessons in the winter. Every Tuesday, I would go to Bromley Mountain along with Meena from Afghanistan and her host family. It was thrilling to watch them ski fast with amazing control. My host brothers went snowboarding too. My! they were so incredible to watch, hitting all the jumps and doing many tricks.
Personally, I had the most fun time too. Sliding, falling, getting really cold and wearing the tight ski boots were some of my memorable experiences. I have real appreciation for my teachers who were patient with me throughout and encouraged me take the steep slopes.
Then, the spring came on and my host family took me to see the production of Maple syrup. It was interesting to watch the collection of sap and it’s conversion to the mouth-watering syrup. I hope to take some back home with me.
Both these experiences made me proud of living in Vermont. I could not have done these without host families, my parents and the YES program. I am glad I had these wonderful local chances and support to do it. I thank all for skiing and syrup and many such unique memories.
