Jan 15 2010 / Volunteering with Student Conservation Association

hosted in Washington DC
it is january, it is winter and it is cold. for some people who can’t deal with this extreme weather maybe the idea to spend the weekend outside their warm and comfy house is not such a good one. But I just spent a great weekend with SCA (Student Conservation Association) far away from the busy city and on Hard Bargain Farm, Accokeek, MD, which is close to the Potomac River watershed.
working and volunteering with this organization is such a good time because i met new people from different schools and backgrounds and also i get involved with a non-profit organization that teaches me how to guard and preserve the environment from harm. i learned about the biodiversity of the watershed that could be invasive for the native plants. i also learned about the usage of certain tools that can help people keep the trails and the environment clean.
when i talked to my new friends here, they got very interested about the exchange program i applied for. we spent time talking and sharing our experience, they taught me so many card games which is so fun for me and makes me really enjoy my community time. with SCA i will have a national crew that provides travel to the National Park in different states in the summer time. i cant wait for another SCA trip in february, to take me out from the crowd of the city to the peace of nature.
