The spirit of volunteerism is constantly celebrated by YES alumni in all parts of the world. From his cultural exchange year to becoming a YES alumnus, Yutthakrit Chalermthai (YES 2008-2009, Thailand, hosted by AFS in Chesaning, MI) exemplifies the true meaning of service to humanity.

After fulfilling his cultural exchange year in the U.S., Yutthakrit initiated and implemented more than 10 community service projects, became a camp director and advisor for more than 20 YES selection and pre-departure camps in Thailand, volunteered at the AFS World Congress, and founded the YES Thai Alumni Association, consequently becoming its first President. According to Yutthakrit, "I always keep my spirit up in volunteerism because I have earned a lot from my exchange year so I need to give back as much as I can."

As a Teaching Fellow at Teach for Thailand, Yutthakrit started a social enterprise project called "Mushroom for Much More." The project involves cultivating and selling mushrooms in order to financially support families living in poverty. Yutthakrit encouraged students to participate in this project by planting and caring for mushroom plants all for a good cause. With the help of his siblings, friends, and volunteers, "Mushroom for Much More" became a huge success, gaining support from the U.S. Embassy in Thailand.

As a young activist, visionary, and social good advocate, Yutthakrit is successfully changing the world as a YES alumnus. In his words, "whenever you receive an opportunity, make sure you give an opportunity."

Congratulations on all of your achievements, Yutthakrit!
