World Cleanup Day is just around the corner! In 2019, YES alumna Klea Troka (YES 2011-2012, Albania, placed by YFU USA in Delaware, OH) celebrated the global environmental awareness day by organizing an activity to clean up the Soda Forest in Vlore with 12 other alumni. The alumni spent three hours picking up trash, and by the end of the event, they had filled up eight trash bags with trash. The local community expressed their gratitude to the alumni and helped them by bringing a car to take the filled bags to the local dump.

Volunteering was an important aspect for the alumni while they were on program and continues to be something they champion in their home countries. The YES alumni community in Albania is committed to making an impact in their local community through volunteering and implementing their own projects that celebrate important days such as World Cleanup Day.
