Congratulations to Intan Shafirra of Indonesia, our December YES Student of the Month! Intan has made an outstanding effort to give back to her host community as a YES student this year. Hardly an opportunity has slipped by Intan; she sees every experience as a great chance for her to learn more about the culture in America, while also sharing her own culture with the community.

Intan has given presentations during an international festival in North Carolina, taught American students a traditional Indonesian dance during International Education week, and participates in her school HOSA (Future Health Professionals) club. Intan has proven to be an excellent ambassador of Indonesia and of the YES program in her CIEE host family, school and community.

As a result of Intan’s presentations during International Education Week, her teacher at Smithfield-Selma High School asked for more information about the YES program. Now the teacher hopes to send interested students in his classes to various countries on outbound exchange programs. Intan is a very friendly, outgoing, future leader. As the picture shows, Intan has also been an enthusiastic volunteer for the Salvation Army during the holiday season!
