Suelv Sulo (YES 2021-2022, Albania, placed by Aspect in Bremerton, WA) began his journey with the Red Cross after the devastating earthquake in Albania in November 2019. Driven by a desire to help and inspired by friends already involved, he initially offered food and clothing to those in need. His commitment deepened as he trained in first aid and engaged in various Red Cross programs.

Through these experiences, Suelv came to understand the profound impact of the Red Cross's mission. Having volunteered with NGOs since childhood, he discovered that humanity was not merely a concept but a practice. Witnessing the joy and gratitude of those he helped showed him that small acts of kindness could make a significant difference. One of the most memorable moments in Suelv's journey occurred in the wake of the earthquake when he distributed essential supplies to affected families. The sense of community resilience and support inspired him to continue learning and giving back, deepening his dedication to service.

His exchange year in the U.S. was a defining experience that broadened his perspective on the world and allowed him to grow in ways he hadn’t anticipated. Living in a new culture, meeting people from different backgrounds, and adapting to new challenges gave him a deeper understanding of the importance of community service. This new perspective strengthened his commitment to helping others, which he embraced more deeply upon returning home. With a fresh sense of purpose, he resumed his role with the Red Cross, bringing new ideas that made his contributions even more impactful.

As he grew within the organization, Suelv transitioned from volunteer to trainer. Over the past five years, he has participated in numerous training sessions, including Basic and Advanced First Aid and Psychological First Aid. With these skills, he now shares his knowledge with other volunteers, helping them prepare to support their communities effectively. Suelv aims to motivate young volunteers and newcomers, showing them that dedication can lead to both personal and professional growth. He finds joy in helping others realize their potential and considers his journey with the Red Cross both rewarding and challenging.

Currently, Suelv focuses on training participants in Psychological Support and Basic First Aid, areas that link closely to his studies in psychology. He also prepares young volunteers for competitions in Albania, emphasizing practical skills for effective emergency response. His sessions aim to provide hands-on training that strengthens volunteers’ readiness for real-life situations. As a trainer, Suelv works to maintain high engagement levels during his sessions, understanding the common challenges faced by participants. He creates an interactive learning environment, ensuring that volunteers leave feeling inspired and equipped with new ideas. To keep his content fresh and engaging, he actively researches and collaborates with his peers.
