Alumni addressed global challenges through SDG projects, mentorship, and community-driven initiatives.
Between January 27 and 31, the YES Alumni Corps of Liberia held a five day capacity-building training workshop in English grammar for 15 students from six high schools in Ganta, Nimba county, Liberia. The workshop was in line with the Workshop for Youth Leaders in Teaching English (WYLTE) Alumni grant Secured by one of the alumni. The training was intended to enhance high school students’ knowledge and skills in the areas of writing essays and good summaries, preparing for public exams and conducting research, effective writing and public speaking.
Overall, the training was a huge success. The participants spoke highly of gaining new knowledge and skills and stressed the need for more positive initiatives to advance Liberia's high school students' English and writing skills. Facilitators drawn from YES Alumni Corps were pleased and encouraged by the level of engagement by the students. For them, the exchange of views and the valuable and insightful contributions from the participants reflected the significant level of interest in the training workshop. The need to continue such engagement with Liberia's high school population, given the consequences of the country's limited Education resources, was made apparent.
iEARN-Liberia is grateful for the grant and the opportunity to help build the minds of young people and have them share their knowledge and experiences in the YES Program through this grant. They look forward to more opportunities such as this one to come.
