English Language Teaching Workshops were conducted by Youth Exchange and Study alumni and iEARN Pakistan, in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate General in Peshawar for over 100 teachers from nearly fifteen institutions at Institute of Management Sciences Peshawar. These workshops were the first and second of the series of four workshops, as an extension of Project Re-Educate from September 2013 by YES Alumni Pakistan.

The workshops were funded by American Councils for International Education as one of the grants for the YES alumni. The workshops were facilitated by Hassan Saeed, YES, 2008-2009 and Youth Programs Coordinator at Society for International Education, along with four other YES alumni who conducted various sessions and facilitated during the activities with the teachers.

The workshops focused on enhancing the ability of the teachers to teach English Language in a better manner in their classrooms. This was also an opportunity for the teachers to get together on a common platform, share their experiences and challenges, and discuss the possible solutions. The teachers discussed each component of the workshop in detail and shared their thoughts. The main topics of the workshop were the four major aspects of the language: listening and speaking, as well as reading and writing.

The teachers enjoyed the workshop and appreciated the efforts of the team to highlight the needs of the teachers and improve their abilities.

Uzma Ayaz, a teacher from Forward Model School shared, "This was a great workshop by the YES alumni, which focused on our abilities as teachers and brought us together under one platform. Bravo."

Another teacher named Irfan Nawaz from Frontier Children Academy said, "This has been a valuable experience, and I am definitely looking forward to implement these activities in my classroom."

Bushra Farooq from Hayatabad Model School said, "I am thankful to YES alumni, American Councils, SIE and the U.S. Consulate General in Peshawar for giving us achance to utilize this opportunity and learn about ways in which we can improve the learning process of the students." Overall, the teachers loved the idea of the workshop and looked forward to follow up activities.

Two other similar workshops will also be happening in other portions of the province, which will benefit nearly 100 teachers. You can review the progress of the workshops by following the hashtag #ELTWorkshop on Twitter. To view the photos from both workshops, please visit:
