"I See The Light" - Staying Positive Through Music

Screen Shot 2020 05 07 At 12 44 06 Pm

My name is Amna Shahzad and I am an exchange student from Pakistan currently studying in Visalia, California. COVID-19 has affected my exchange year in many ways but the only thing that keeps me positive right now is music. For me, it's a therapeutic activity and I believe that by sharing some of my singing with the world, I can somehow help people to get through their stressful times. Maybe not a lot of people but if only one person comes and tells me that they listen to my covers and feel better, that's what really matters to me.

I took choir classes in my high school and my music teacher, Mr. Carillo, helped me to improve a lot. At this time we all are uncertain about what is happening in the world and the only thing we can do on an individual level is to stay home and maintain social distance because it is very important. I started recording covers of songs and will continue to do so because it helps me to consume time and at the same time, by staying home I am trying to mitigate the chaotic situation that is causing a disruption in everyone's life.

I decided to sing this song because I definitely feel like being in lockdown kind of relates to how Rapunzel was confined in her house by her mother. After coming out of this quarantine we all will definitely feel as free as Rapunzel. I hope everyone can stay positive and learn a new skill. This is the time to explore yourself and the talents hidden in you. Make the most out of it. We are all in it together and I know that when we look back at this time, it will remind us that we were very strong and brave!
