Kennedy-Lugar YES Program 10th Anniversary!

Yes10

On December 12, 2012, the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program hosted a world-wide virtual Kickoff Party commemorating its 10th year.  The event honored 6,000+ alumni from 45 countries; host families, schools, and communities; students on program; partner organizations; the U.S. Department of State; and U.S. Congress - especially the late Senator Kennedy and Senator Richard Lugar.

The Virtual Kickoff Party was a day-long event starting at 12:00 AM (EST) on December 12 on Twitter and Facebook. The virtual event reached 500,689 individuals on Twitter through hashtag #KLYES10; 18,116 individuals on Facebook; and 6,185 visitors through the YES program website. Partners, Host Families, Alumni and students on program connected virtually, shared memories throughout the day, and celebrated with 10th Anniversary cakes in their country chapters.

Examples of quotes are listed below:

"We are a family spread across more than 40 countries, not bounded by geographical territories or political havoc. #KLYES10@yesprogramnews"
"Watching countries unite for #KLYES10 is inspiring. Wars/uprisings fail for long-term peace, understanding and exchange is the way #YESGh12"
"Just in awe that I was not the only one touched and changed by the YES program. Celebrate peace beyond borders with #KLYES10."

The celebration continues until Decemeber 12, 2013! Events include or have included the following:
