Kuwait Cuisine Cooking

Kuwait Cooking

Alumni and 2015-16 YES students are ready to cook at the Kuwait Kitchen Academy.

After attending the Healthy Living For Healthy Families seminar in Qatar, alumni from Kuwait returned home, eager to hold their own event. They discussed a few ideas, and decided to host a “Kuwait Cuisine Cooking” workshop for the 2015-16 YES students, in order to teach them how to make traditional and healthy meals for their host families.

The two dishes that students learned to make were traditional chicken and rice (machboos), and a meat and okra stew. A brief introductory was given by Mr. Jamal Al-Sanousi at the beginning of the event, who is the primary Chef and owner of the Kuwait Kitchen Academy. Mr. Al-Sanousi's speech was followed by a short but informational presentation about nutritional health facts and myths by Ms. Mariam Fouda. The Chef and his assistants then went on to explain what participants would be making, and provided a few techniques to be used while cooking.

The students had a blast chopping up onions and tomatoes, cooking the chicken, stirring the stew, and getting to know each other; there were many unforgettable moments! Everybody finished their two dishes, which were then packed into take away boxes. One student commented, “although I complain a lot about food, I'm going to go back home and thank my mom for all the cooking she does everyday for us. She really puts a lot of effort into it.”

The event was a great success, and the students were excited to share what they learned with their new host families.
