YESTalks: A Global Citizen's Journey

Yestalks Cropped 0

“Do you know how people pretend to be winning an Oscar or singing in their own concert while taking a shower? Well, instead, I pretend to be giving a TED Talk…I use them as a way to open my mind and eyes to all the important ideas and issues around the globe. The opportunity to be a part of delivering the YESTalks to the world is a dream come true.” Ahmed Touqan (YES ’12)

Ahmed from West Bank will soon live his dream as a part of the production team for the upcoming YESTalks: A Global Citizen’s Journey alumni event in Tunis, Tunisia. He will be joined by five other alumni for the production team and ten alumni speakers who have been selected to share their stories of global citizenship.

The event will feature alumni from Nigeria, West Bank, Bulgaria, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Cameroon, Yemen, Kosovo, India and Pakistan, who will discuss what global citizenship means to them and how the YES program has impacted their global journey. For the last four weeks, the speakers have been participating in online trainings to help them create and craft their stories. Then, on April 23, they will deliver their talks in front of an audience of YES alumni, staff and local community members from Tunis.

Not only will the event feature the talent of YES alumni storytellers, but it will also feature their artistic and digital abilities through the YES alumni production team. Ahmed, along with alumni from Bulgaria, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique and Tanzania will be responsible for stage management, filming, livestreaming, editing and photographing the YESTalks event. These alumni, who were former participants of digital storytelling workshops led by iEARN over the last two years, will arrive early in Tunis on April 18. They will use the skills that they learned from the digital storytelling workshop, but will also work with a professional film maker to take those skills to the next level.
