Maryame has taken the lessons learned from her exchange year to make a difference in her community.
By Yara Abdel Sater (YES 2020-2021, Lebanon, virtually placed with AFS-USA in Fenwood, WI)
My name is Yara Abdel Sater and I am a YES exchange student from Lebanon. I am virtually placed with a family who lives in Fenwood, WI. The YES virtual program is a life-changing experience! I met many people from different backgrounds and established connections with AFS volunteers, American students, and my host family.
My host family shared experiences and stories with me that introduced me to aspects of American culture, and I got the chance to share my culture too! Spending time with my host family is a wonderful experience! I really enjoyed hearing their stories about Thanksgiving and being able to talk to my host sister, Elif, about her daily life.
I feel like I am part of a big family! The YES virtual program exposed me to different perspectives. Thank you YES for making this experience a magnificent one! I am looking forward to a great spring semester.
