The YES program proudly announces Fatima Slayhi of Lebanon as the YES November Student of the Month! Fatima was placed by World Link in Humble, TX, where she attends
Summer Creek High School.
Fatima Slayhi from Lebanon has already made a huge impact on her host community in Texas by volunteering her time and sharing her culture. She exemplifies positivity, compassion, and commitment. In just a few months, Fatima qualified for the Volunteer Service Certificate from the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs by completing 100 hours of service and was honored as a "Houston Food Bank Student Hero" for her dedication.
Fatima also promotes the YES program in her home country, recently speaking at an online event about her experiences.
She also interns with a nonprofit supporting youth in the arts, assists her chemistry teacher, and helped at her school’s Halloween celebration. Fatima recently participated in a suicide awareness walk and a run to raise funds for the Lebanese Red Cross.
Fatima loves to share her Lebanese heritage through presentations, introducing American audiences to traditions such as the dabke dance. She baked traditional desserts as part of her placement organization’s Kindness Cookies project, sharing them with food bank workers, firefighters, and school staff.
Academically, Fatima excels, with straight A’s in challenging AP courses. She is active in several extracurricular activities, including her school’s Key Club and Asian American clubs. She also mentors her host sister’s Girl Scout troop.
Her host family describes her enthusiastically: “Fatima is such an amazing person! She is driven and helpful and she brings an amazing energy to our household; we are very grateful to be hosting her. She is going to accomplish anything she sets her mind to!”
Congratulations, Fatima!
