Planning for Global Youth Service Day Webinar

13298357775 52fa70c0f6

On March 18, YES alumni signed in for the first webinar of 2014! Led by Katherine Gerber, Director of Outreach at Youth Service America, as well as Mahid Macadato and Froskhan Abdurahim, both YES alumni from the Philippines, participants explored Global Youth Service Day.

Global Youth Service Day, started by Youth Service America in 1988, is an annual event which organizes young people across the world to conduct community service, service learning and youth voice activities that benefit their communities and the world. Activities are organized in more than 100 countries making it the largest annual celebration of young volunteers. This year Global Youth Service Day, often referred to as GYSD, will be held on April 11th to 13th.

In this alumni webinar, Katherine Gerber, who works closely with GYSD and youth around the world, gives important steps to organizing a community wide project, outlines ways to increase impact and shares valuable planning tools. She also invites young people to register their projects on the GYSD website to join the worldwide movement.

Froskhan and Mahid, both YES alumni, contribute valuable insight into GYSD planning from the YES alumni perspective. Collectively they have helped hundreds of YES alumni in nearly 30 communities throughout the Philippines organize hundreds of GYSD events. They tell stories about successful project ideas from the past, present key actions for increasing participation and offer solutions to many of the challenges that YES alumni face worldwide.

If you were not able to join the webinar live you can watch the recording now!

Don’t forget to register your project and use #KLYES #GYSD when sharing on Twiter or Facebook!
