Like Christmas in the the U.S., Ramadan is a month of celebration, charity and sacrifice. With that in mind, the YES alumni from iEARN Bangladesh raised money to make this Ramadan memorable for underprivileged children in Bangladesh.
Imagine only having the clothes you are wearing and only one meal a day, if not less. This is the life many children in Bangladesh live every day of every year. We started a crowd funding campaign on Go Fund Me with the goal of raising $1000 by July 9th, so that the children living at the SONGRAISH SHISHU PORIBAR orphanage could have the chance to enjoy Ramadan in a way that they would not be able to experience otherwise.
Within twelve days, through the support of amazing donors, we exceeded our goal, and raised about BDT 110,000 (USD $1400). With the money, we bought new clothes for the orphans and made arrangements for an Iftar party for them. We are so thankful to all of the donors for their support and for helping us make the lives of these orphans a bit better.
