Secret Santa

Large Group Of Alumni Sitting Around A Table Turned Toward The Camera

Learning about American holidays makes a BIG impression on YES students, and many times, they create new holiday traditions after returning home! In Jordan, thirty-six YES alumni and four current YES Abroad students gathered for a Christmas party on December 22.

Calvin Haynes, a Public Diplomacy Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Jordan, joined the event to speak about the importance of alumni networking. The alumni shared with him their stories from their YES exchange year, such as their favorite memories in the U.S. and their experiences celebrating American holidays.

At the event, the alumni did a Secret Santa gift exchange. Everyone drew a name to be one other person’s “Secret Santa,” and were tasked with finding a small token to give that person at a maximum price of 5 JOD (7 USD).

No holiday celebration would be complete without special treats! The attendees snacked on sandwiches, donuts, Christmas cookies and hot seasonal beverages while listening to Christmas songs. Music, gifts, and snacks - what a wonderful Christmas-y way for the YES family to come together in Jordan!

The alumni also watched a compilation video which highlighted alumni activities from the last two years and the impact the YES alumni have had on the local Jordanian community. Through this activity, the alumni were able to connect and get to know one another and build stronger bonds through the alumni community.
