Virtually Together this Winter

Holiday Party

Last week, the YES alumni chapter in Jordan gathered virtually to spread holiday cheer and continue an annual ritual of celebrating the most anticipated season of the year. Meeting online this year added one unusual perk — alumni could join from all over the world!

Daoud Alhumaidi (YES ’09) dialed in from Kuwait, where unlike the other alumni he was not under COVID lockdown measures. Daoud walked around Kuwait City and showed the alumni some of his safe weekend activities.

Alumni coordinator and frontline healthcare worker, Dr. Farah Alkafaween (YES ’09), shared stories and insights on the pandemic, provided updates on the vaccine, and cleared up misconceptions regarding its authenticity. Ashraf Abuelidam (YES ’15), the other alumni coordinator, hosted a game where each alum got to list three things they accomplished in 2020 and things they hope to accomplish in 2021.

The YES alumni chapter in Jordan has been working relentlessly to adapt appropriately to this pandemic and continue its programs. The chapter hopes to sustain this virtual success until the situation stabilizes and restrictions are eventually lifted.

Ann Barto (YES ’19) shared the following feedback after the virtual gathering:

“Even though I was 20 minutes late, I was welcomed with warmth! We all laughed about things I cannot even remember. We talked for around an hour and a half until we decided to discuss what we have accomplished in 2020 and our plans for 2021. I realized I have not done much this year, but really, who has? We then shared nice memories each of us had. It was a great evening.”
