As part of the YES 10th anniversary kick-off, the YES alumni gathered on the 7th of December to celebrate this occasion. The main aim of this event was to promote the YES program to the current Access students who will be able to apply for the YES program next year.

The event consisted of two main parts. First, presentations were given by successful YES alumni. These talks aimed to introduce the program, talk about the different experiences throughout the year and present the success stories of the YES Alumni. The speakers included Safaa’ Halahleh ’03, the first YES student from the West Bank. She talked about how the YES program affected her and where she is after 10 years.

Another speaker, Abdallah Khaliefeh ‘07, discussed his experience as a YES student and how it led him to start his own initiative, “Wise Leaders Summer Camp”, which creates opportunities for youth to shadow their local government and is funded by a US Consulate Grant. Mahmoud Itefat ’09, another alumni, spoke about his successful and interactive experience during the YES year. Waad Jaradat ’07 gave an interactive presentation for the Access students during which YES alumni and Access students exchanged questions and answers about the program.

The second part of the celebration was a quiz game that taught the students about various topics including American culture and facts about the YES program. Each team had 4-5 Access students along with two YES alumni to help them. After the speeches and the game were over, there was time for questions from Access students and comments by the YES alumni.

Finally, the event ended with lunch, and the Alumni cut the 10th anniversary cake. The Access students had the chance to socialize with the YES Alumni and get to know more about the alumni's experiences.
