The YES program is excited to announce the English Teaching Workshop! The virtual workshop will be held from May 17–21 for up to 50 YES alumni. This opportunity is best suited for those with minimal English language teaching experience who have a desire to learn and implement English language projects. The deadline to apply is April 19, 2021Apply to the YES Alumni English Language Teaching Workshop today!

This workshop will consist of a series of synchronous and asynchronous trainings facilitated by YES staff and small group sessions led by YES Alumni Mentors. Participants will learn teaching techniques, organizational skills, and classroom management strategies, among other topics. Following the workshop, participants will be able to create a structured lesson plan, adapt materials for multilevel classrooms and different age groups, and understand competencies in the four language skill sets: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. A requirement of the workshop is that all participants administer an English language activity or project after its completion using the skills and knowledge learned. Alumni will have the opportunity to request funding for their follow-on project by submitting a proposal for the post-workshop grant opportunity.

The YES Alumni English Language Teaching Workshop will consist of daily instructional sessions throughout the week starting at 9am EST (DC Time) for approximately two hours each day, culminating in a final English language practicum assignment to be completed by each participant. Between sessions, participants will also be expected to complete assignments to practice the skills that they are learning.

Eligibility: YES alumni from all cohorts and program countries are welcome to apply. Finalists must be available, able, and willing to participate in the full week of online training from May 17–21, including assignments outside of the sessions.

Alumni with disabilities are encouraged to apply and accommodations will be available. Special consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate interest in English teaching and highlight a desire to utilize workshop content in addressing needs identified in their communities.
