On July 13th, the YES Alumni in Lebanon gathered for a day of excitement and healthy competition. Following a successful MS Excel workshop organized by the alumni at the American Corner Beirut, the festivities continued with a thrilling football tournament. This event brought together players and spectators from the Mount Lebanon, Beqaa, South, North, and Beirut regions, making it an exhilarating day for alumni from all over the country!
The event kicked off with two electrifying semi-final matches, featuring teams of five players each, showcasing their football prowess and aiming to secure a spot in the tournament's final game. With around 20 alumni taking to the field, the atmosphere was abuzz with energy and anticipation. The Mount Lebanon region team overcame the Beqaa region team after a fierce tactical match, where Mount Lebanon's players demonstrated their outstanding skills and football mastery. Similarly, a fascinating match between the South Lebanon and Beirut region teams took place. It was a challenging game, focused on defensive tactics and counterattacks. The South Lebanon team won after a stunning free-kick goal by their captain.
On the sidelines, about 30 alumni cheered on their respective regions, shouting encouragement, and motivating the players to give their best and secure the win. As alumni from different regions bonded over their shared love for the game and their community, the friendly rivalry only added to the fun.
The final match was a true nail-biter, keeping everyone on the edge of their seats. The teams from South Lebanon and Mount Lebanon battled it out, showcasing their abilities, strategy, and unwavering determination. In the end, the Mount Lebanon region team emerged victorious after a challenging match against the South Lebanon region team, gaining the respect and admiration of everyone in attendance and winning the YES Football tournament.
However, the real winners of the day were the alumni community. The event provided a wonderful opportunity for everyone to reconnect and bond, reminisce about their experiences in the US, and forge new friendships. It was heartening to see the latest alumni cohort, who recently returned from the U.S., integrating seamlessly and building new connections within the larger YES Lebanon alumni community.
The Lebanese YES Alumni football match was not just about the sport and friendly competition; it was also about strengthening community bonds, supporting one another, and creating everlasting memories. The event's resounding success left everyone eagerly looking forward to the next opportunity to gather and emphasized the importance of organizing alumni sports competitions.
We extend immense gratitude to the YES community for their efforts, and here's to more joyful and unifying events!
