YES Student Meets the President of Kosovo

Armisa and President of Kosovo Vjona Osmani Gajraku Armisa

By Armisa Gajraku (YES 2024-25 placed by Pan-Atlantic in Staten Island, NY)

The Kennedy-Youth Exchange Program has many future leaders as alumni and current students. Some even get to meet current leaders and share their experiences! One such student Armisa Gajraku from Kosovo got the chance to meet President Vjosa Osmani of Kosovo thanks to an Albanian-American Association in Staten Island, New York. Armisa shared,

"Gathered in the presence of the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani on Staten Island, New York, I had an amazing opportunity to meet the President of my country. I felt an overwhelming sense of connection as I stood with many Albanian-Americans from many different walks of life. It was incredible to share this moment and build a connection with people who shared my roots. The heartfelt address truly struck a chord, filling us with pride and a sense of belonging. The genuine warmth and well wishes she offered made the experience even more memorable for me.

With my host family by my side, I felt a comforting sense of home that I hadn’t anticipated. This gathering reminded me of the strength of the bonds that tie us together. This experience, made possible by the YES program and the United States Department of State, will always hold a special place in my heart as a testament to the connections that transcend distance and build a more connected world."

Thank you also to the Albanian American Association of Ulqin for hosting this event! Thank you Armisa for sharing this inspiring meeting! We look forward to seeing you take on great things in the future!
