Interested in podcasting and using it as a tool to enhance your work as YES alumni? Apply now for the 2022 YES Voices Podcasting Workshop with StoryCenter. Applications are due November 28, 2021. This workshop will be virtual and in-person in Tirana, Albania!

  • The virtual component will be held from January 20, 2022 – February 24, 2022.
  • The in-person component in Albania will be held from March 25 – 28, 2022, travel permitting.

The virtual component will consist of weekly Zoom sessions (two hours per session) from January 20, 2022 – February, 24, 2022. After completing the virtual sessions, participants will travel to Albania from March 25 – 28, 2022, travel guidelines permitting, to get hands-on experience with the podcast production process, and record, edit, and produce podcast segments.

Twenty YES/YES Abroad alumni will be selected to attend the workshop. To be selected, alumni must be available for both the virtual and in-person components.

Throughout the workshop, each workshop participant will be paired with another participant to create a podcast segment about a community project they are working on. Participants will be supported throughout the process by expert facilitators who will be available for “office hours” for consultation/support for each pair of participants.

The workshop will be hosted by YES staff from iEARN-USA, American Councils, and Amideast in collaboration with the StoryCenter, a digital storytelling organization that has been facilitating innovative arts approaches to participatory media creation for nearly 30 years. Each pair of alumni will work directly with facilitators from the StoryCenter to learn podcast theory, receive hands-on tutorials, develop a clear podcast theme, and construct a final podcast segment that promotes their community project and work as YES alumni. Alumni will also learn project management skills throughout the workshop. All participants will be strongly encouraged to continue using their podcasting skills to promote their work and the YES program following the workshop. Small follow-on grants will be available following the workshop.

Eligibility

YES/YES Abroad alumni from all cohorts and program countries are welcome to apply. Alumni with disabilities are encouraged to apply and accessibility accommodations will be available.

Finalists must be available, able, and willing to participate in the full nine weeks of virtual and in-person sessions, including weekly Zoom sessions (two hours per session) from January 20 – February 24, 2022 and in person sessions in Albania from March 25 – 28, 2022.

Special consideration will be given to applicants who have a well-developed idea for a podcast based on a community development project that they have implemented or are currently planning/implementing.

Applicants can either apply as a pair or individually. If applying as a pair, both partners will still need to complete the application form. Applicants will be reviewed on an individual basis; no preference will be given to applicants who apply with a partner.
