Zanzibar YES alumni Hold their Yearly Clothing Drive

Youth

During a time of extreme isolation, giving back to the community may be a concept that is out of sight and out of mind. For over a decade, YES alumni in Tanzania have been reminding community members of the importance of giving, and this year is no exception.

Each year, alumni in Zanzibar organize a clothing drive and reach out to members in the community for donations. According to the alumni, these donations are extremely important to the less fortunate youth in their community, as some live off of only a few clothing items and have to work over a span of two years to purchase new clothes.

For this project, alumni collected donations throughout the month of August. At the end of this period, the alumni provided areas of distribution in Three Area Kinduni Orphanage, Matemwe Village and Tumbatu Island. As a result of this effort, youth in need of these donations were able to pick up clothing items needed at the distribution site closest to their home. Items donated included men's and women's clothing, children's clothes, and school uniforms.

Over the years of this project, alumni have seen lots of success and plan to continue helping the youth of Zanzibar for many years to come.
