Pass the Torch

YES alumna standing next to her host family holding up a red sign that reads "The heart of a volunteer is not measured by size, but by the depth of the commitment to make a difference in the lives of others."

For Global Youth Service Day, Anda Rama, YES 2016-2017 Kosovo, hosted by ASSE in Berlin, PA, decided that she wanted to implement a project at her host school. High school can feel overwhelming, especially for freshmen, so Anda wanted to organize a project for 8th grade students to help them feel confident when entering high school. With the support of school officials and classmates, Anda organized a half day mentorship program for 8th graders at  Berlin Brothersvalley High School. Each senior was assigned one or two 8th graders to mentor for the half day as they attended class and ate lunch together. The project was a great success and Anda's high school now hopes to make Pass the Torch an annual event. Great job, Anda!
