Alumni Collaboration Brings Smiles

Img 3523Resized

YES alumni in South Africa and Mozambique collaborated on a school uniform donation for students in Mozambique. The alumni donated 150 uniforms and 100 packs of stationery supplies to an orphanage for children living with HIV/AIDS and to a primary school in Boane district outside Maputo, where many students are from underprivileged families and can’t afford school uniforms.

Another goal of the project was for the alumni to demonstrate collaboration and friendship between South Africa and Mozambique during a time when there has been increasing instances of xenophobia between the two countries. Who better to demonstrate leadership in cultural exchange and celebrating diversity than YES alumni?

Small Alum Grp

Three South African alumni traveled to Mozambique to help distribute the uniforms and supplies. They were hosted by the families of Mozambican YES alumni and participated in cultural outings led by local alumni. The project made a big impact; students, parents and educators were very happy to receive the gifts. The alumni were proud to continue the YES tradition of being true ambassadors, global citizens and change makers, and they are looking forward to future collaboration.
