Building Global Awareness

Students Gather Around A Laptop In A Classroom

International Education Week (IEW) is especially important for Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Alumni in Sierra Leone. Many alumni learned of the life-changing exchange experience through IEW presentations conducted in their schools. To reciprocate, alumni decided to give back and educate other local schools around Sierra Leone.

Between November 12-16 2012, alumni conducted a two-day workshop for students from rural government schools.  Alumni taught students about International Education Week, its importance, and how people celebrate the week around the world. They also provided students with critical Internet and technology skills to help them connect with and explore the world. Students came away with an understanding of global education and essential Internet research tools.
