Eleven YES alumni and thirty-nine U.S. Department of State English Access Microscholarship recipients participated in the JustEco cleaning and awareness campaign at Sana’a University. JustEco is an initiative of alumna Reem Al-Jebzi ‘06, in coordination with a team of dedicated alumni working to promote environmental awareness through cleaning, awareness campaigns and upcycling activities.

During this event, participants alternated between cleaning the university’s campus and surveying its students, emphasizing the fact that responsibility for keeping our surroundings clean and preserving the environment is a role in which everyone must play a part. A few university students even joined campaign participants and helped clean the campus. At the end of the event, participants left their fingerprints on the campaign banner before placing it at the university's entrance to raise awareness about JustEco, encouraging others to join the campaign.

Hesham Al-Azazy, YES ‘13, was able to interview campaign participants and university students throughout the event, and asked why they believed the JustEco campaign was important. Hesham plans to use the material collected to produce a video about environmental awareness in Sana'a.
