My Growing Love for Digital Storytelling

Ezz1

I learned a lot during my time at the Middle Eastern Digital Storytelling Workshop in Doha, Qatar. What I found useful about the workshop in Qatar is that you can deliver a message or make a change by making a short video. So far I have not used many of the tools because I had to go to India to carry on with my college studies, but I did present about what I learned in Qatar to some of the YES alumni back home.

Around 10 alumni attended the presentation. It surprised me to see how interested they were in learning about digital storytelling. They actually enjoyed the workshop and tried to get the most out of it. During the workshop, I explained the arc of making a short video and how to make a video better. They have not had the chance to use what I taught them yet, but they showed some interest of making the videos.

Beyond teaching others about what I learned in Doha, I also want to make short films of my own. Because I am currently in India studying, I have not had the opportunity to use the skills I learned in Doha to make my own videos, but I would for sure do projects and use the skills that I learned as soon as I go back to Yemen. Some ideas I have in mind for videos are short films that display the poverty in Yemen, food waste management, and the Yemeni revolution.

Before attending the workshop in Doha, I wasn't really interested in pictures and making videos, but now I am in love with making short films. I learned that videos can have a great effect on people. I can discuss my country's issues or any other issues in the world by making a short film and share it with people. Overall, the workshop was amazing and I would be more than happy to do it again.
