Three Months to Make a Difference

Three Months To Make A Difference1

Six thoughtful and motivated YES alumni are participating in a voluntary internship in a public hospital in Aden. Al-Sadaqa hospital is one of the largest public hospitals in Aden and specializes in Gynecology and Pediatrics. However, the hospital lacks sufficient facilities and staffing. The hospital has been hosting “Doctors Without Borders” operations for a few years, which was most critical during the period of the 2015 war, but it still has a very limited workforce.

YES alumni are helping to facilitate work for doctors by performing clerical and administrative activities, sorting mail, filing documents, answering phones, greeting clients, scheduling meetings, and assisting nurses. They will be taking part in this volunteer program for three months. YES alumni have arranged a weekly schedule and were able to recruit five additional volunteers to help in the hospital.

Dr. Gamal Al-Alawi, the hospital general manger stated, “This opportunity is very good for the hospital, the crew and patients, and it will benefit the interns as well in getting experience.”

This is yet another example of YES alumni making a positive impact under difficult circumstances.
