Five young Americans- Jacqueline Craig, Isabel Baily Palmer, Noah Holmes, Jaira Walker and Emma Conover Crocket will be spending the year immersed in Omani culture by living with Omani families and attending school in Muscat.<br />
The Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Programme was established in October, 2002.</div>
The programme is funded by the US Department of State to provide scholarships for high school students between the age brackets of 15-17 years from countries with significant Muslim populations to spend up to one academic year in the US Students live with host families, attend high school, engage in activities to learn about American society and values, acquire leadership skills, and help educate Americans about their countries and cultures.</div>
In 2007, YES Abroad was established to provide a similar experience for US students between 15-19 years.</div>
Five American high school students will participate in YES Abroad Oman for 2011-2012, and seven Omani high school students will travel to the US this year.</div>
The programme has been administered in collaboration with Amideast, the Ministry of Education, and supported by the US Embassy in Oman since 2003.</div>
