Abdulaziz reflects on the highlights from serving as a mentor for CEW.
Sixteen YES alumni from Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Mozambique, Philippines, South Africa, Thailand, Turkey and the USA gathered in Alexandria, VA for a digital storytelling workshop designed to provide them with video, photography and other skills to enable them to better capture, promote and share program impact stories and YES alumni activity.
Through a series of discussions, films, experiential learning activities and fieldwork, participants explored topics such as the narrative arc, elements of a good story, how to pitch a story, storytelling on social media, interview techniques and practical skills such as basic video and sound editing and photography.
Participants were divided into four teams, with each team working towards creating a short film about one of their team member’s YES program experience. Each team was tasked with collaborating on every aspect of production – writing a script, filming, storyboarding, video and sound editing.
You can check out one of their completed short films, “Shine On”, on the YES You Tube Channel.
