Fourteen Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) alumni brought together 42 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) youth leaders from across Cavite for a leadership conference on April 27, 2013.
The event, entitled “Youth Leadership for Development” provided a venue for the SK leaders and their youth councilors to meet with their counterparts from other localities and share a common goal of making significant changes in their communities. The U.S. Embassy’s alumni speaker program invited alumni experts on civic education and the environment to serve as speakers. By the end of the conference, the participants offered to help each other to create project plans to help their respective communities.
The one-day conference is one of the YES alumni community’s outreach initiatives each month across the Philippines to celebrate the 10th year anniversary of the YES program in the country. Also present during the activity to assist were Philippine and German youth volunteers from the American Field Service Philippines.
